How to fit shoes
1. Shop at stores that provide service to their customers by providing knowledgeable sales individuals
2. Remember that sizes vary among shoe brands and styles. Do not just select shoes by the size marked inside the shoe. Be sure to have both feet measured. One foot may be a different size than the other. The size of ones foot changes as one ages.
3. In the case of one foot being larger than the other. Fit your shoes to
the larger foot. Have your shoes fitted at the end of the day when your feet
are the largest. For daily wear go when you have been on your feet all day
because your feet have expanded.
4. Have your footwear fitted at a similar times as when you will be wearing
the footwear.
5. Select a shoe that conforms as nearly as possible to the shape of your
foot
6. Stand during the fitting session and check that there is adequate space
3/8 inch to 1/2 inch between the end of the shoe and the tip of the longest
shoe.
Allow 1 inch of space for athletic shoes
7. Make sure the ball of your foot fits comfortably into the widest part of
the shoe.
8. Remember that shoes that feel tight at the time of purchase will remain
tight. Shoes do not stretch to fit; so if they do not feel right at the time
of purchase they probably will never fit right.
9. The heel should fit comfortably in the shoe with a minimum of slippage.
Heels should fit snugly
10. Fully lace and tie the shoes properly for more adjustment, particularly
for a proper fit across the instep.
11. Walk in the shoes to make sure they fit and feel right
12. Properly fitting shoes will be comfortable to wear right out of the box;
they do not to be "broken in"
